Why You Should Give Your Man a Pass if He Doesn't Want to Wear His Wedding Ring at Work

This can be a controversial topic for some...I've heard plenty of couples have this conversation in my store and I'm sure it has caused an argument or two over the years. When the conversation arises in my store I always side with the man (or woman) who is saying they can't wear their ring to work. Let me tell you why...

It's dangerous...

"I ask you to ask yourself this question, do you want a husband with a ring finger to wear a ring on, or no ring finger at all?"

This really applies to men and women who work with their hands or in any environment that could potentially cause harm to the hand if a metal wedding ring (or any ring for that matter) is being worn at work. Popular professions that I include in this are: welders, electricians, technicians, construction workers, refinery workers, mechanics, arborists, tow-truck drivers, lineman, fitness trainers, and many more. This post doesn't really apply to men/women who are working in an office type of setting because there's not a huge risk to the hands in this environment.

Losing a Finger

This is an extreme case, however it IS possible. Catching a ring on a piece of equipment in the midst of moving quickly could cause severe damage to the finger. Best case scenario it would just hurt a little and you might bend your ring out of shape, but worst case scenario it could break your finger or in the worst, worst, worst case damage the finger to the point of needing to remove it or it could just be severed right there and then.

Electric Shock

“Well that was shocking!"

All jokes aside, this is a serious and potentially life threatening hazard of wearing a metal wedding ring at work; metal conducts electricity and therefore can shock you. I just had a customer come in with a ring that had been arched while her husband was doing some minor electrical work at home, thankfully he was ok, but his ring did need repair (best case scenario here)! Electrical shock can also cause sever burns to the finger and hand, not pleasant. I won't post the gruesome photo I have of the result of an electric shock from a ring, but if you'd like to just Google it...yikes!

There Are Other Options

Metal rings are out for people who work with their hands...if you really, really, really, want your man/woman to wear their ring at work there are a lot of options nowadays. Silicone rings are very popular and there are a ton of different companies offering colorful, fun options. Not to mention most of these rings on average cost between $10-40.00. Or there's always the tattoo option, the choice is yours! Enso Rings is a popular choice and a great quality silicone ring option.
